Sextant licence agreement
Last updated 3 October 2026.
This agreement is between you and PressureLabs (“we”, “us”), the maker of Sextant. It applies when you install or use Sextant. If you do not agree with it, do not install or use Sextant.
You buy Sextant from Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), which sells it for us as the seller of record. Polar’s Buyer Terms cover the sale itself: the payment, taxes, invoices and the processing of refunds. This agreement covers the software and how you may use it.
In short
- You may install Sextant on your own Macs and use it for work and for personal use.
- A licence is for one person. Do not share it, resell it or get around the licence check.
- Free needs no licence. Lifetime is one payment and never expires. Plus is a subscription.
- What you record is yours, and so is the duty to record lawfully.
- Sextant is provided as is, and our liability is limited as described below.
What you may do
- Install Sextant on any Mac you own or use yourself, and use it there, for work and for personal use.
- Keep copies of the installer and of your licence file for your own backups.
What you may not do
- Give, sell, rent or lend Sextant or your licence to anyone else.
- Publish or distribute Sextant, its installer or your licence file.
- Remove, disable or get around the licence check, or help anyone else do so.
- Use Sextant to record people in a way that breaks the law (see “Your recordings and the law”).
Licences and plans
The plans and their prices are on Sextant’s pricing page.
One licence per person. A licence belongs to the number of people its plan covers. Today every Sextant plan covers one person. That person may use the licence on all of the Macs they use. A team or company needs one licence for each person who uses Sextant.
Free. Free needs no licence and costs nothing. You may use it under this agreement, with the monthly recording limit shown on the pricing page. Reaching the limit never hides or deletes what you have already recorded.
Lifetime. One payment, with no renewal. The licence never expires. It covers every version of Sextant we release, with no further payment: “updates forever”, as the pricing page says. If we ever stop developing Sextant, the versions you have keep working with your licence. We cannot promise that they will keep running on future versions of macOS.
Plus. A subscription, paid monthly or yearly, for the integration features: sending tasks you have reviewed to tools such as Jira, Linear and GitHub Issues, handing a task to a coding agent, and making your library available to agents. Plus is announced but not on sale yet; this part applies once it is. While your subscription is paid, the Plus features work. When it ends, they stop. Nothing else changes: your recordings stay on your Mac, and a Lifetime licence you also hold is not affected.
Updates
Sextant does not update itself and does not check for updates. You download new versions from our website when you choose to. An update may add, change or remove features.
Your recordings and the law
Sextant records audio, and video of the call window, on your Mac when you tell it to, or automatically for apps you have set to always record. What you record is yours, and you are responsible for it.
The rules for recording calls differ between countries, and between states within some countries. In many places you need the consent of everyone on the call before you record it. Check the rules that apply to you and to the people you call before you record.
Sextant’s Tell the call helper copies a short message for you to paste in the call chat, so that you can tell the others you are recording. Sextant does not tell them by itself. The helper is a convenience, not legal advice.
We never receive your recordings, transcripts or notes, so we cannot recover them for you. Keep your own backups.
Services run by others
If you switch on third-party transcription, Sextant sends the audio of your calls to the provider you chose (today ElevenLabs), with your own API key and under your own account with them. That provider’s terms and privacy policy apply to that service, and it bills you directly. Sextant also downloads speech and language models published by others, from Hugging Face; their licences apply to them. We are not responsible for services we do not run.
Open-source parts
Sextant includes open-source software. The licences of those parts apply to them, and nothing in this agreement limits the rights those licences give you.
Ownership
Sextant is licensed to you, not sold. We keep every right in Sextant that this agreement does not give you.
When this agreement ends
You can end it at any time by deleting Sextant. Your licence ends if you break this agreement, or if the payment for it is refunded (see the refund policy). Without a paid licence you can go on using Free. Whatever happens to a licence, your recordings stay on your Mac.
No warranty
Sextant is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We work to make it reliable, but we do not promise that it is free of errors, that it records or transcribes every call correctly, or that it suits your purpose. Transcripts, speaker names, summaries and highlights are made by models and can be wrong. Check anything important against the recording.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit, business or goodwill, that comes from using Sextant or from being unable to use it. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for your Sextant licence.
Nothing in this agreement limits or excludes liability that the law does not allow to be limited or excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep every right the consumer law of your country gives you.
Governing law and disputes
- The purchase (payment, taxes, invoices and refunds) is governed by Polar’s Buyer Terms, including the law and the dispute rules they set.
- Everything else in this agreement, if you are a consumer, is governed by the law of the country where you live, and you may take a dispute to its courts.
If something goes wrong, please write to us first. Most problems can be solved by email.
Changes to this agreement
We may update this agreement for later versions of Sextant. The date at the top shows the latest change. A change never takes away a licence you have already paid for.
